He was joyously riding a scooter along paths of the park, smelling flowers, feeding squirrels, admiring peacocks. By some old people sitting on the benches, Tomasz used to stop, and – with a childish frankness – he asked them questions about joy, loneliness, fear of death, dreams, love and lack of love.
Tomasz is 18 now. Exactly 12 years ago, when he was 6, we were starting shooting our movie.
The questions we adults don’t dare to put. Tomasz tried to catch a sense of life.
Now, after 12 years, we have an exceptional chance to see what inevitable process of growing up means, what is to gain and what is definitely lost in it.
On his Birthday, Tomasz comes back to the garden of his childhood. A magical encounter will commence in the movie…

Beginning of 1945, Upper Silesia, Poland. The last days of WW2. At the just liberated areas, the Communist Security Service eliminates its enemies under the pretext of punishing “national traitors.” It organizes a labour camp for Germans, Silesians and Poles, at the site of a former Nazi concentration camp, which is named “Zgoda” / “Reconciliation”. Franek, who is in love with a Polish prisoner Anna, joins the camp crew to rescue her. He doesn't know that one of the inmates is Erwin, his German friend, who, like himself, has also loved Anna for a long time. Franek joins Communists in the illusory hope of outsmarting the system.
